Big Island Hawaii Breweries

Craft brew fever is taking over the nation, and while Hawai‘i isn’t necessarily known as a brewery hub, there are some places for beef fans to sip some local flavor.

In Hilo, find Hilo Brewing Co. (275 E. Kawili St., (808) 934-8211), known for Volcano Red Ale and Hawaiian Crow Porter. The tasting room is open Tuesday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Wednesday-Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Big Island Brewhaus, located in Kamuela (Waimea) is known for award-winning beers: Overboard IPA, Golden Sabbath and Mountain Porter. Stop in for a meal (outdoor seated dining available in the covered beer garden) or grab a growler to go.

Kona Brewing Co.’s Kona Pub and Brewery (konabrewingco.com) is arguably the granddaddy on the island. Stop in for an order of Uncle’s Fish Tacos and a Longboard Island Lager.

Also in Kona, you’ll find Ola Brew (olabrewco.com). The tap room, where you’ll find beer (Ola Brew IPA, Kiawe Brown) and cider (White Pineapple Cider, Dragronfruit Lychee Cider).
