Saddle Up

A guided HORSEBACK TOUR is a great way not only to explore distant terrain, but also to become familiar with the lay of the land and O‘ahu’s culture.

KUALOA , near Kāne‘ohe, also offers trail rides on its historic 4,000-acre working cattle ranch. Available as one- or two-hour tours, riders are treated to ocean views as well as the chance to experience Kualoa Valley up close.

HAWAI‘I POLO CLUB conducts oceanfront rides for small groups along Mokulē‘ia Beach. Riders mount thoroughbred polo horses and ride through a 100-acre ranch and polo fideld. Sunset and other personalized rides are available.

On O‘ahu’s North Shore, TURTLE BAY RESORT offers 12 miles of coastal trails and seaside pathways for exploring. Hop on one of the stable horses, and trot on daytime trail, evening or sunset group rides. Private/ advanced rides and keiki (kids) pony activities are also available at the resort’s stables. For a more immersive experience, check out the Horsemanship 101 activity that allows guests to learn all aspects of O‘ahu horseback riding. The two-hour session starts off with grooming and saddling, followed by an hourlong ride along the bay. Once back at the barn, horse enthusiasts spend time with their equine friend, by giving the horse a rinse and feeding them some snacks.
